Bernard Chardère Prize

Christine Masson and Laurent Delmas,
laureates of the 2020 edition

Prix Chardere Visuel

Christine Masson and Laurent Delmas

They have never ceased to see everything, decipher everything, or express everything about the cinema. Their weekly Saturday radio show, On aura tout vu (“We’ll have seen it all”) on France Inter is one of the unmissable events of cinema news, broadcast by a public channel. And not just news… Christine Masson and Laurent Delmas cover the films of the week and invite guests who have participated in them. They will revisit the history of cinema to cover a current event, and even explore the way films are made by receiving expert technicians. Their curiosity is boundless. This radio duo, in their shared role, is awarded the Bernard Chardère Prize of Lumière 2020.

Christine Masson is a radio personality, who listeners have heard particularly on Europe 2, Hit FM, and also seen on television on France 2 ("L’assiette anglaise", "Campus"...). She joined France Inter in 2001 as a journalist and then as a producer (“Cinéma et dépendances”, summers 2004-2007). She also conducts seminars at FEMIS. Christine Masson commented she was "very honoured to be a laureate of this award. What makes it especially meaningful is to receive it in the birthplace of the cinema, like a lumière in the night..."

Laurent Delmas founded and directed the magazine Synopsis. On France Inter, he was a journalist for the programmes of Albert Algoud (2000-2002) and José Artur (2006-2007), and co-hosted "Cinéfilms" alongside André Asséo (2004-2006). Author of a television documentary series on European cinema (Arte), he has also edited the books "Cinéma, la grande histoire du 7ème art" (Larousse) and "Le tout ciné" (L’Archipel / France Inter). Laurent Delmas told us, "During this period, when the cinema is so severely affected by the health crisis, receiving the Bernard Chardère Prize constitutes a tremendous encouragement to tirelessly pursue the passionate connection between films and moviegoers”.

Visuel Prix Chardere 2

The Bernard Chardère Prize

The Bernard Chardère Prize is conferred upon a film critic and writer in the image of Bernard Chardère himself, founder of the magazine Positif in Lyon, an author, the first director of the Lumière Institute and one of its co-founders.

The first Bernard Chardère Prize was awarded to journalist and producer Jean-Jacques Bernard, who was a loyal presence at the Lumière festival since its inception, participating wholeheartedly on the set of Radio Lumière or hosting festival guests. In past years, the prize has also been presented to Serge Kaganski (Les Inrockuptibles), Danièle Heymann (Marianne, Le Masque et la plume radio shows on France Inter), Freddy Buache, writer, historian and founder of the Swiss Film Library, Michel Ciment, cinema critic of reference and director of the review Positif, Eva Bettan, radio journalist and eloquent voice of France Inter, Lucien Logette, managing editor of Jeune Cinéma, and, last year, Luc Lagier, creator of web magazine Blow Up for Arte.

The 2020 Bernard Chardère Prize will be awarded during the Lumière festival.
