Invitation to Oliver Stone
Emblematic director of American cinema, an accomplished artist and great provocateur of American power since the 1980s, Oliver Stone will present his autobiography, Chasing the Light, released in France as À la recherche de la lumière (L'Observatoire). Stone will also introduce an exceptional screening of Born on the Fourth of July in restored print at the Auditorium of Lyon.

Ron Kovic, a dedicated patriot, was born on the 4th of July, America’s Independence Day. He enlists in the Marines and leaves for Vietnam… An adaptation of the autobiographical novel by Ron Kovic, and an Oscar winner, with Tom Cruise in the lead role.

Remembering Tonie Marshall
The only woman to take home the César Award for Best Director, Tonie Marshall was a filmmaker committed to the fight for gender equality in the audiovisual industry. We will pay homage to this loyal friend of the festival, who left us earlier this year.

In the Mood for Love : 20th anniversary
A hypnotic ode, In the Mood for Love first appeared in 2000 at the Cannes Film Festival, in a work-in-progress state. Twenty years later, the film's restoration in 4K was performed by Criterion and L’Immagine Ritrovata, under the supervision of Wong Kar-wai, Lumière Award laureate in 2017.

Other premières
Since it is more important than ever to support the works, artists, distributors, producers and exhibitors, a handful of premieres will be shown: Frances McDormand, a guest of the festival last year, is magnificent in the new film by Chloé Zhao; Sofia Coppola, absent last year to see her father receive the Lumière Award, gifts us her new film, carried by the magnetic Bill Murray; French filmmaker Valérie Lemercier will introduce her biopic, inspired by the life of Celine Dion.

Tribute to Michel Piccoli
A huge figure in French cinema and theatre, Michel Piccoli has done a myriad of genres, collaborated with the greatest filmmakers and marked the history of cinema. Homage to this film adventurer with the projection of a 35mm print restored by the Cinémathèque française of Divertimento (a shorter, alternate version of The Beautiful Troublemaker) by Jacques Rivette.

Tribute to Max von Sydow
From Ingmar Bergman to Sydney Pollack, from arthouse to lavish productions, Max von Sydow has traversed the cinema for seven decades, always reinventing himself, forever taking on more challenges. Lumière pays tribute to this faithful friend of the festival with the rich and exceptional career.
